Petra Extension

After breakfast, transfer to the Cairo airport for your flight to Jordan.  On arrival at Queen Alia International Airport in Jordan, you will be met and transferred to a hotel in Amman. (B)

Drive to Jerash (Gerasa of antiquity), the best preserved city from Roman times.  A walk through Jerash is a journey in time.  Walk in the Oval Plaza surrounded by colonnades, visit the Roman theater and Byzantine churches with mosaic covered floors.  You will see for yourself how the Romans built the earthquake-proof columns of the colonnaded streets.    Continue to Ajloun to tour the 12th century Saracen Castle, the Qala'at ar Rabad, a fine example of Islamic military architecture, built by one of Saladin's lieutenants in the campaign against the Crusaders. Continue to Petra for your overnight. (B,D)

After breakfast, enjoy a full day at Petra.Petra was the central meeting point of the Nabatean spice routes which originated from the Persian Gulf, Western Arabia and the Red Sea.  The natural richness of the mountainous area combines in a superb way with the refined cultural and massive architecture of the Nabateans who carved their theater, temples, tombs, monasteries, houses and roads entirely into the rose red sandstone rocksll.  one enters by passing the Siq, a small narrow gorge at the end of which all of a sudden dramatically appears the famous monument of Petra: al Kazneh or the Treasury.   Your local guide will show you around explain the sites. In the afternoon, return to Amman via Desert Way. Overnight in Amman. (B,D)
