A Million Animals, A Multitude of Friends

Game drives, nature hikes, and learning with the Kamba and the Masai.

Join JOURNEYS' own expert guide, Makau Nzioka, for this unique family safari combining incredible wildlife viewing, hiking and African cross-cultural experiences.

We have refined this trip as the premier nature and culture safari experience in East Africa, and are fortunate enough to be visiting Makau's village during his family reunion. Enjoy a combination of fine lodges and private, catered bush camping in remote areas with great hiking. You will meet some of the most interesting tribes in East Africa and encounter great herds of wildlife on foot, all from a spacious, comfortable, air-conditioned safari van. Throughout, you will benefit from a guide who is both an expert naturalist, as well as a friend of the people in the communities you visit.

If traveling in early August, it may be possible to schedule the trip to join Makau's family at their spirited annual celebration in his hometown, Mbitini village. In August, you can expect an inside view of the great Serengeti migration. You will have a good chance of seeing a million animals in a pristine African setting. If you make only one African safari, this is a great choice!

All departures will be led by Makau Nzioka, an expert Kenyan birder, naturalist, conservationist and educator.  Current projects he is involved in include the construction of a well and a school library in his village.

A few words from your guide:

"I have worked with JOURNEYS for many years, and I am very pleased to be leading this trip. We observe animals to understand them, never on a rushed program. We work with conservationists, and we enjoy spending evenings with you discussing issues that affect conservation in Kenya, past, present and future. I know that leadership is the key for visitors to really know and earn a great appreciation of a destination. It is always my pleasure to share what Kenya has to offer. As a guide, I know I am Kenya's ambassador to the outside world, and I promise to do my job with great care and sincerity."

    Karibu Kenya! Welcome to Kenya!
