Mayan Adventure for Families

Three years ago JOURNEYS inaugurated a new concept in family travel: a week-long adventure program, with a range of hands-on activities and excursions to delight ages 4-84, based in one gorgeous and relaxing setting. The response has been enthusiastic.  All of us at JOURNEYS are excited to offer travel to Belize more easily and more affordably than ever before, with the same energy, professionalism, and personal attention that has built our reputation over 30 years.

This adventure is packed with activity, learning, and surprise. The guides with whom we have worked for years have complete comfort in the rain forest, encyclopedic knowledge of the orchids, tropical birds, and reptiles, and total command of Mayan lore. They communicate all of this with an energy, passion, and joy rarely matched by guides anywhere.  Our guides make everything fun.

The trip is based at Cohune Palms River Cabanas, one of the greenest, most family-friendly nature lodges in the Cayo District, where your family can tube on lazy rivers, explore caves,  visit local villages and schools, and even embark on night hikes in search of nocturnal creatures of the area. An array of activities – all fascinating, but none required – will begin before breakfast and last well into the evening. For a striking contrast, add three days on South West Caye, a separately-priced extension on the Caribbean coast, far from other tourists. Snorkel the reef, spend your days on a white sand beach on a private island, and talk with the locals about their efforts to learn about and preserve this unique corner of the world.
