    Day 2      Anavilhanas Archipelago

Board the Motor Yacht Tucano early today and depart upstream on the Rio Negro. You will cruise through the world's largest river island system, the Anavilhanas Archipelago. From the observation deck, you scan the magnificent tangle of vegetation at the water's edge. By mid-afternoon, the vessel has gone beyond the frontier of settlement and entered a wilderness area. Both shores are covered by dense rainforest. Although you never know what you will see, you have a good chance of observing pink river dolphins and a large collection of exotic birds. Most certainly you will be treated to magnificent forest vistas and the spectacular trees of the rainforest. In the late afternoon, you will embark on a quest to view wildlife. You may also go for a swim in some of the world's cleanest and most refreshing water.

    Lodging: M/Y Tucano

Say hello to your floating hotel, the M/Y Tucano
    Day 3      Rainforest Safari

Early this morning, explore the rainforest along the water’s edge. You should hear and perhaps see howler monkeys along with a morning serenade of toucans. After breakfast, you will go for a walk in the forest where you will get a good start on understanding the complex ecology of the Amazon. Around midday, you will return for lunch, and the vessel will get underway, perhaps stopping at a place to swim. In the late afternoon, you will explore the forest and listen to the sunset chorus of birds and frogs.

Walk the forest in search of howler monkeys and other wildlife
Day 4      Travel on the Rio Negro

Start your day with an exploration of the awakening forest. Keep your eyes open for monkeys! Return to the boat for breakfast, which will be followed by either a walk in the forest or an excursion in the launches. Tucano will travel during the middle of the day and stop in the afternoon for an excursion. Tonight the vessel may travel a bit more as you marvel at the night sky crowded with stars.

    Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
    Lodging: M/Y Tucano

Embark on an excursion on Tucano's launches
    Day 5      Shore Excursions

After two excursions on shore, the Tucano will navigate along the heavily forested shore while scouting for wildlife. You may stop for a visit at a settler's home carved out of the forest. In the early afternoon, you will be near an extraordinary river called the Rio Jauaperi. Here you will see a kind of forest known as the varzea. Scout along the shoreline for some of the unique creatures found only in this  environment. Weather permitting, you will also have a chance for a night excursion to observe nocturnal creatures.

    Lodging: M/Y Tucano

Search for creatures found nowhere else on the planet
Day 6      Travel on the Rio Negro

Today you will depart the Rio Jauaperi, proceeding  downstream on the Rio Negro for the next two days to  explore a new collection of rainforest habitats. In the daytime, you will continue to scout in the launches, walk in the forest, and, at night, look for nocturnal wildlife.

    Day 7      Novo Airao

After a walk in the forest, you will cross to the west bank of the Rio Negro, exploring as you go. You will stop at the substantial boat building village of Novo Airão. As you walk through the streets, you will marvel at how the 19th century thrives in this remote corner of the globe. Tonight Tucano goes downstream to arrive at daybreak near the Rio Negro's confluence with the Amazon River. This is a good night to sip the national drink of Brazil, the caipirinha, as you glide through the starry darkness.

    Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
    Lodging: M/Y Tucano

You may see pet sloths on your village visit
Day 8      Lago Janauari / Meeting of the Waters

This morning you will explore the Lago Janauari Ecological Park, where the thick brown water of the Amazon flows swiftly through the forest. This area is usually a very good place to observe wildlife. Around midday, the vessel will travel to the famous "Encontra das Aguas" or "Meeting of the Waters",  a several-mile-long line marking the joining of the world's two largest rivers, the Amazon and the Negro. Here the dark waters of the Negro run beside the opaque brown waters of the Amazon. In the afternoon, you will scout one of the hidden streams in the area to try to see more of the Amazon's beautiful and bizarre creatures. Tonight there will be one last excursion looking for nocturnal life in the rainforest.
