Nazca Lines & Paracas Extension

In this coastal desert region you can find traces of ancient cultures, study the mysterious designs of the  Nazca Lines, and watch the sea lions as they frolic in the Paracas National Park.

Trip Itinerary

ANTICIPATED ITINERARY, ACTUAL ROUTE MAY VARY

Day 1  §  Lima/Paracas

This morning, travel south by private vehicle (about 3-4 hours) on the Pan-American highway from Lima to the city of Paracas. Along the way, you can visit the Pacachamac Ruins. Upon arrival, explore the Paracas National Reserve, one of the most important wildlife sanctuaries on the Peruvian coast, encompassing over 1,300 square miles of coastal habitat and 3,400 square miles of ocean surface. Stay overnight at a local hotel in Paracas.

Day 2  §  Ballestas Islands/Nazca Lines

After breakfast this morning, enjoy a cruise around the Ballestas Islands, where it is possible to observe wildlife, such as sea lions, penguins, boobies, whales, pelicans, and even flamingos. Then continue to Ica, one of the most important cities located in the south coast of Peru. Have lunch and then visit the oasis of Huacachina. Continue to Nazca and board a scenic light aircraft flight over the Nazca Lines. Only discernible from the air, view the huge animal and human figures, geometric patterns and spirals, and many miles of perfectly straight lines carved out across this small corner of desert. Created over a thousand years ago, scientists and archaeologists have been puzzled over this amazing and mystifying site. Although there are many theories, they still have yet to discover its true purpose. Total flight time is about 1 1/2 hours, with approximately 30 minutes spent over the Nazca lines. Ending the day you will arrive at your hotel. (B)

Day 3  §  Nazca Lines/Lima

If you didn't get to fly over the Nazca Lines yesterday aftertoon, you will have a second chance to do it this morning, or you can spend the rest of the morning at your leisure. In the afternoon you will be transferred by car back to Lima. (B)
