Trip Itinerary

ANTICIPATED ITINERARY, ACTUAL ROUTE MAY VARY

Day 1  §  Lima/Paracas
This morning, travel south by private vehicle (about 3-4 hours) on the Pan-American highway from Lima to the city of Paracas. Along the way, you can visit the Pacachamac Ruins. Upon arrival, explore the Paracas National Reserve, one of the most important wildlife sanctuaries on the Peruvian coast, encompassing over 1,300 square miles of coastal habitat and 3,400 square miles of ocean surface. Stay overnight at a local hotel in Paracas.

Day 2  §  Ballestas Islands/Ica
After breakfast this morning, enjoy a cruise around the Ballestas Islands, where it is possible to observe wildlife, such as sea lions, penguins, boobies, whales, pelicans, and even flamingos. Then continue to Ica. Upon arrival, you will head to your hotel, Hotel Las Dunas. This afternoon, visit the sites around Ica. The archaeological museum contains fascinating mummies, textiles, and pottery found preserved in the arid coastal environment. Also, visit the Huacachina Lagoon, an oasis surrounded by sand dunes, palms, huarango trees, and beautiful houses. Be sure to sample some of the local pisco brandy - this region is famous for it! (B)

Day 3  §  Nazca Lines/Lima
Early this morning, enjoy a scenic light aircraft flight over the famous Nazca Lines. Only discernible from the air, view the huge animal and human figures, geometric patterns and spirals, and many miles of perfectly straight lines carved out across this small corner of desert. Created over a thousand years ago, scientists and archaeologists have been puzzled over this amazing and mystifying site. Although there are many theories, they still have yet to discover its true purpose. Total flight time is about 1 1/2 hours, with approximately 30 minutes spent over the Nazca lines. Spend the rest of the morning at your leisure. In the afternoon you will be transferred by car back to Lima. (B)
