Kathmandu Ridgetop Trek

Seldom trod trails revealing high Himalayan panoramas
Overview

overview

Nepal is known for being a trekker's paradise, but can be physically challenging for many who attempt her. This trip was specifically designed for those who enjoy trekking, but are interested in more gentle excursions, which makes it appropriate for all age groups and skill levels. Additionally, the trekking duration is completely customizable for each traveler, varying anywhere from one to twelve days.

Over the course of the trip, you will have unparalleled views of the enormous Himalayan Peaks, including Mt. Everest should weather conditions cooperate, as well as dizzying valley views of villages, temples, and unique flora and fauna. Encounter locals along the trails and in their villages. Observe hundreds of species of birds, and soak in the rugged topography that is so iconic of this mystical land.

    Visit Boddhanath Stupa

Today you'll have a tour of Kathmandu Valley including Boddhanath and Pasupatinath. Boddhanath is a great white half dome with the Eyes of Buddha painted on it and is one of the most famous cultural icons of Nepal. Boddhanath is a site of very active worship and many Tibetan-type Buddhist monasteries representing sects from Tibet, Bhutan, Sikkim, different areas of Nepal and India. Nowhere on earth will you encounter such a concentration of varied Buddhist activity. Not far away you will visit one of the most holy and venerated of all Hindu temples, Pasupatinath. Non-Hindus are not allowed inside the golden-roofed pagoda-style temple, but you can glimpse the great golden bull through the doorway. A great pilgrimage occurs here in February attracting Hindu ascentics and devout worshippers from all areas of the Hindu world. Rhesus monkeys are everywhere around the grounds, riverside cremations are often taking place and there is always a colorful group of ascetic pilgrim visitors encamped in the general area. If time permits, visit the Tibetan refugee center and Patan, another of the old Kingdoms of the Kathmandu Valley.

  • Day 7: Lele Gaon / Bhaktapur / Kathmandu
Stop at the village of Bhaktapur

In the morning, enjoy birdwatching near the campsite. After breakfast, depart by vehicle for Kathmandu via the ancient city of Bhaktapur, once a separate kingdom where the city still retains an architectural and design spirit of a feudal state focused on artistic and religious glorification. You will feel you are walking back in time as you stroll through the core of the old city now preserved and interpreted as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Take some time to look in the shops to observe potters, weavers, brass-makers, religious artisans, Brahmin priests, and spice merchants carrying out their professions as they have done here for hundreds of years. This is the best place in all of Nepal to shop for souvenirs. Back in Kathmandu, you'll have the rest of the day free to spend your final night as you like. Your hotel is located in the Thamel area where there are great shopping bargains to be made.
