Alaska Photo Workshop with Wayde Carroll

Wildlife, dramatic scenery, and fishing village activity on Prince William Sound

This unique workshop allows passionate amateur and intermediate photographers to capture the beauty of Alaska at a comparatively moderate cost in the company of Wayde Carroll, a masterful teacher. Based in Cordova, Alaska, at the head of Orca Inlet on Prince William Sound, search for sea otters, shorebirds, moose, bears, beavers, and bald eagles. Enjoy long summer days and ocean sunrises and sunsets. The quaint coastal village, working fishing fleets, dramatic mountainscapes, calving glaciers, and rain forest hikes offer endless stimulation and challenge for your photographic impulses.

Wayde’s genial, enthusiastic, and tireless style stands in sharp contrast to serious conventional photo tours which suggest the need for multiple cameras, heavy lenses, and flash attachments. Bring your one digital camera, or bring more. Wayde is comfortable with beginning, intermediate, and advanced shooters.

Travel with Wayde and fellow workshop participants by Alaska Railroad from Anchorage to Whittier (two hours), then ferry on the Alaska Marine Highway to Cordova (three hours), looking for humpback whales, Dall porpoises, sea otters, and glaciers along the way.

Wayde begins mentoring participants at the time of sign-up, offering consultation on camera equipment and trip preparation. Throughout the trip, Wayde works with each traveler individually and offers evening slideshows, talks, and constructive critiques, covering a range of topics including composition, depth of field, techniques for landscape and stop-action photography, tripod use, filters, night and low-light photography, and much more.

Fishing enthusiasts will be pleased to know that deep-sea and stream fishing outings leave the lodge daily and can be included at extra cost.

"Have you ever found yourself saying something along the lines of 'Well, these photos don't really convey how beautiful it was but you get the idea ...' Would you rather bring home a collection of images worthy of display, that give your viewers a real sense of the wonder? That's precisely my goal as a photographer and teacher...." ~Wayde Carroll
