Trip Itinerary

ANTICIPATED ITINERARY, ACTUAL ROUTE MAY VARY

Day 1  §  Arrive Tasmania/Cradle Mountain
You will be met on arrival at the airport in Devonport or Launceston. On the way to Cradle Mountain, visit Sheffield, known as the ‘Town of Murals’ for the large paintings on the buildings that depict the town’s history. Enjoy lunch at a local bakery, and then your drive takes you up through the mountains to your lodge at Cradle Mountain, on the edge of the World Heritage Listed Cradle Mountain/Lake St. Clair National Park. The awesome beauty of this region is an inspiration that will stay with you long after you leave. Tonight, enjoy a wine and cheese tasting, sampling the excellent locally made wines and delicious produce.

Day 2 - 3  §  Cradle Mountain
Enjoy two full days exploring Cradle Mountain. Visit the Visitor Information Centre and enjoy the short Pencil Pines Walk for spectacular views of the Pencil Pine Falls. Visit Dove Lake to enjoy many short walks and spectacular views of Cradle Mountain. There are many walks along well cared for walking tracks, and you are likely to see pademelons (a smaller relative of the wallaby) and wombats near your cabin and out on the trails. You can join guided walks or a nighttime wildlife tour, or just relax and explore on your own. Depending on the time of year, there also may be options to bike, horseback ride or canoe. (2B)

Day 4  §  Cradle Mountain/Launceston
After breakfast, travel back through the Great Western Tiers. Visit the Trowunna Wildlife Park to enjoy an interactive guided tour where you can see Tasmanian Devils, pat a koala and have the chance to hold a baby wombat. At the Devil Education Research Centre you can see animals and birds interacting in their natural environment. Arriving in Launceston you’ll visit the cliff grounds of Cataract Gorge Reserve, cross the gorge on the Alexandra Suspension Bridge, and ride the longest single span chairlift in the Southern Hemisphere. Afterwards, you will be taken to your hotel, and the rest of the day you are free to explore on your own. (B)
