Ecology Project International
These special departures in 2014 for families with teens offer a chance for a unique cultural exchange with local Galapagos high school students.
Your wildlife cruise will be on board one of three identical first-class motor-yachts, M/Y Eric, Flamingo I, and Letty, custom-designed for Galapagos excursions, offering tremendous value and superior comfort. Two experienced English-speaking naturalist guides attend to the details of your Galapagos cruise. Each naturalist takes a group of no more than ten passengers on all shore excursions and shares extensive insights into the islands’ diverse wildlife. Stable rubber boats (Zodiacs), locally called pangas, ferry passengers to shore for island visits. This week-long, comprehensive itinerary visits the islands' most spectacular sites, so you may witness the unique plants and animals that have made these islands famous.
On Thursday (Day 7), when your yacht is in Santa Cruz, you will have the chance to work with Galapagos high school students on their volunteer project through Ecology Project International (EPI). The activities include working with students collecting research data at the tortoise breeding center or eradicating invasive species in the highlands. Later in the afternoon, take a tour of Puerto Ayora, given by the EPI Ecology Club students.
Take every opportunity to learn about these impressive islands that are a laboratory for ecological studies. With the all the activities, including snorkeling, kayaking and hiking, you will soak up the experience and leave the islands with a heighted appreciation for this unique ecosystem and our environment. You may also have a chance to practice a little Spanish, and make some new friends!
"It was a perfectly wonderful trip!" ~ Jerome Ebner, Galapagos Family trip June 2010
