    Family Polar Bear Safari

Explore Spitzberen and the Svalbard archipelago aboard the Sergey Vavilov

Check out this special trip to Spitsbergen designed especially for families - and now, receive 20% child discount and $750 airfare credit!

We're betting that no youngster would turn a nose up at wildlife watches, tundra hikes, or photography lessons. Seeing polar bears in the wild, learning to identify tracks, and engaging in other activities will be a big thrill for children, teens, parents, the entire family. This family-focused adventure takes advantage of a child's natural curiosity and interest in nature (even identifying scat!) with a hands-on, child-centered, educational approach designed by professional outdoor educators who are also polar specialists. They know that fun is essential to learning.

Now, more about the trip ...

The remarkable islands of the Svalbard archipelago are part of Norway, lying far to the north of the Norwegian mainland and high above the Arctic Circle. Together, they total an area of about 62,000 square kilometers, about the same size as Ireland or Tasmania, mostly in the form of three larger islands, as well as a number of smaller outcrops. Wild and rugged mountains covered with ice and snow jut skyward on the larger islands, including Spitsbergen, the largest of all, and will leave you spellbound when you first glimpse their majestic beauty.

Our aim on this expedition is to undertake a complete circumnavigation of the major islands of the group, making frequent shore stops to allow you and your family to hike, bird, photograph, and admire the spectacular scenery. Zodiac cruises take you close to sea cliffs and abundant wildlife. Your exact course will be dependent on the prevailing sea ice conditions, although we hope for smooth sailing along the west coast of Spitsbergen in the comparatively warm North Atlantic current. Here, amongst these fjords, you'll witness wonderful scenery and often prolific wildlife. Young and old will surely be impressed with the wildlife and wild scenery of this remote and fragile part of our planet.
