Koroway

The Koroway are a people of the Papua province of Indonesia. The majority of the Koroway clans live in tree houses and are semi-nomadic. The Koroway are skilled hunters and fishers and are sometimes away from their homes for days at a time on hunting expeditions.

Religion is an important aspect in the Koroway culture, and a Koroway clan must organize a sago grub festival in order to stimulate prosperity and fertility in a ritual fashion at least once during their lifetime. The Koroway also have an extraordinary and rich oral tradition full of myths, folktales, magical sayings, charms, and totem traditions.
