Florine Herendeen - Client Services Director
Long time employee, Florine Herendeen has been with JOURNEYS for 22 years.
As an active mother of 3 school age children, my free time typical entails being a taxi service
running my kids from one sporting event to another. Outside of that, my passions include running,
sports, reading and, of course, traveling with my kids. I am active in my community as a school
board member and enjoy having the opportunity to make a difference in the education of children.
As Director of Client Services I work with many of our alumni travelers and staff to ensure
continued excellent customer service. I also assist with the planning of our JSTs and family
programs. In addition, I handle many of the financial transactions.
When I travel,
I typically travel with our family groups leading the family JSTs. My favorite trips have included
hiking and wildlife. I enjoy trips with a variety of activities and I especially enjoy the special
opportunities that traveling with my children helps to bring us closer together and away from the
hustle and bustle of everyday life back home....priceless

Lené Minder - Central America & Pacific Specialist
I am one of 22 siblings! I grew up with parents who had
compassionate hearts and adopted 18 children making us one big, mostly happy family.
Even to this day, we are all very close. I attended Spring Arbor University in
Spring Arbor, Michigan and majored in Elementary Education and minored in History.
I graduated with a B.A. in 1991. While attending college, I was able to do a three-week
study in Belize and Guatemala. It was my first experience with international travel and
opened my eyes to an amazing world.
I
went back to my high school alma mater Washtenaw Christian Academy and taught
at the middle school level. Immersing myself in all kinds of activity I became
very involved over the years. I was an event coordinator, social science
committee chair, volleyball coach, chapel planner, Student Government Director,
class advisor, and temporary acting administrator. I also took two trips
with my students to Washington D.C. I received a great honor in 1999, being
named Wal-mart’s Teacher of the Year for Washtenaw County. In 2000,
my colleagues at Washtenaw Christian named me Teacher of the Year.
After twelve years of teaching, I decided to take a different path with my life and
I joined the team at JOURNEYS International. I am the Central American and Pacific
destination Specialist and I also assist in our family programs.

Pat Ballard - Sales Director
When I was a teenager every other Sunday my parents would take me to the Detroit Institute
of Arts to see adventure travel films narrated by the very people who made the film.
After just a few weeks of seeing these extraordinary adventures deep into the heart of
Asia and Africa, I was hooked. There was never a doubt in my mind that one day I’d
get to experience these places for myself!
It was my desire to do my first trip by myself without any of my caring family
and friends. My very close knit family had a hard time accepting this, with the exception
of my mother who encouraged me daily to “follow your heart, Pat”.
Wanting to know the feeling of being isolated from everything and everyone I knew, I took
off to Nepal. Since that time 20 years ago I’ve been to Asia and Africa many, many times
as well as to the Poles and Latin America. Every once in awhile I still go alone, but usually
my travels are with JOURNEYS clients and my family. Now as a grandmother, I frequently lead
some of JOURNEYS family adventures with one of my grandchildren and these trips are always magical.
Now in my 14th year as Director of Sales for JOURNEYS, my love of travel has continued
to grow. I suspect it will always be this way.
